Dear Cabbies, please be reminded to maintain proper conduct on the roads by following LTA rules and regulations.

Please refer to the list of common VL offences and penalties below: 

VL Conduct Offence Penalty Common Reasons
Taking from passenger a fare more than the fare last published by the Licensed operator by less than $20 12 demerit points  
Taking from passenger a fare more than the fare last published by the Licensed operator by more than $20 21 demerit points  
Soliciting for Passengers 12 demerit points  
Parking at taxi stop $50 fine
  • Taxi drivers park at taxi stop to wait for prospective passengers instead of cruising around to look for passengers.
 
Failing to ensure safety of passengers $50 fine
  • Taxi drivers fail to ensure passengers have fully boarded or alighted before moving off
  • Weaving in and out of traffic
  • Failure to obey traffic lights signal such as beating red/ amber traffic lights
  • Failure to keep within the permissible road speed limit
  • Applying brakes abruptly
  • Watching videos on mobile while driving
 
Refusing fare $300 fine and 6 demerit points
  • Taxi drivers have personal booking jobs
  • Taxi drivers pick and choose passengers/locations
  • Taxi drivers changing shift with status of taxi rooftop sign showing it’s available
  • Taxi drivers only accepting cash payment and not other payment modes
  • Failure to stop when signalled by passengers when the taxi is available for hire
 
Failing to behave in a civil and orderly manner $50 fine
  • Taxi drivers are rude and aggressive
  • Taxi drivers passing insulting/threatening/abusive/ uncalled for remarks at passengers
  • Taxi drivers shouting and scolding passengers
  • Taxi drivers hurling vulgarities and pointing middle fingers
  • Taxi drivers challenging for fight
 
Terminating hiring $200 fine and 5 demerit points
  • Taxi drivers cannot agree on the route of travel with passengers
  • Usually follow after the dispute with passenger over conduct/ safety issues
 
Leaving taxi unattended $50 fine
  • Taxi drivers park at the taxi lots to run errands or answer to nature’s calls
 
Failing to take the shortest and most direct route $100 fine and 3 demerit points
  • Taxi drivers did not ask for or follow passenger’s preferred route
  • Taxi drivers take alternative route due to heavy traffic or road closure
 
Attempting to overcharge $100 fine and 3 demerit points
 
 
Failing to display accurate taxi roof sign $50 fine
